Radio Wapa

This is what can be considered the educational branch of our projects. It is a way to offer a voice to the people who are participating in the other projects we are organizing. To allow them to tell us about the places we are recording in, the music they are performing and the connections they have with both. It is also a way to offer a channel of expression to people who normally don’t get a chance to speak in our “usual” media outlets. People who are creating and participating in environmental and cultural activities that are offering alternative and viable solutions to modern day situations.

The content of each program will depend on the places we are working in and what we find along the way. The programs that we develop, besides being broadcast on the internet and podcasts, could be used as educational materials by teachers in the schoolroom.

Another aspect of the Radio Wapa project is to be able to support the creation and development of community based radio stations. Radios that exist as the expression of the voice of the local people and not for commercial or governmental purposes. And where it is possible and there are sufficient funds, to install renewable energy systems to power the radio station equipment.

Wapapura hopes to simply offer a voice to those that have been silenced long enough, the people of the land and the people of the alternate ways.
